missing in action

I haven't been posting much this week. Why? I have been doing my taxes in my spare time.

yay...taxes...

...

However, I did go on an errand run with Andy the other day. We ended up wandering around a dollar store. That is where I found these.

There were girly squeals of delight. I love that they had my Nijntje (yup, that's Dutch for Miffy) available. The only thing that might make me "girl out" more is if they had Moomin paraphernalia.

Here is a cute little panel from one of the Moomin books.

i no longer eat bacon

Seriously, I have never really liked pork. In my mind, ham has always has been that "gross" thing served around Easter. I have never been a big bacon eater, at all.

That being noted, I am pescetarian (meaning: I eat no other meat, except fish). Even so, I find myself drawn to the smell of bacon. I am disgusted by the idea of bacon and the texture of it. Yet, I hover anytime someone is cooking it, like a cat waiting for a tuna-can to be opened.

"I can watch right?" says the bacon voyeur.

Anyhoo, this has brought me on a search. I must find a suitable replacement for my strange bacon dilema! The problem is, bacon is one-of-a-kind. My first choice is Bac-Os. I dislike Bac-Os.

It says on the container that Bac-Os are made with soy. LIES! I'm convinced it is made with plastic and red foam. The good news is, I finally found a replacement that I can live with.

Things I like about this product?

  • It has more of a "food-like" color and texture.
  • It has a more convincing taste.
  • It is organic.
  • I can confidently say, "This needs more vegetarian bits".

mind blown

So, I have an addiction to YouTube video channels. I am sure I will post other YouTube interests in the future....HOWEVER my most recent addiction is a series called Mind Blow by Vsauce. Here is a recent episode of Mind Blow.

I just can't get enough of all that delicious and somewhat useless information! You're welcome.

you are beautiful

I grew up in the Chicagoland area. Most of the time, I don't really think of what I might miss. However, I DO miss riding the train and being reminded that, "I am beautiful."

A man named Matthew Hoffman started the "You are beautiful" campaign in Chicago. He basically started with stickers. He and friends places said stickers  around the city. Then, he started taking orders for the stickers internationally and eventually inspired public art installations around the world.

If you are unsure what I am talking about, here is a nice educational video.

I realized that instead of wishing that I was back in Chicago and wishing that I could be surprised with inspiration that I might want to be "a part" of the inspiration itself. So, I will now be attached to my mailbox waiting for the stickers that I just ordered.

the gremlin that lives in my phone

First, I will point out that I never wanted a cell phone. The telephone and I have a hate-hate relationship and can be best explained by this meme.

However, many years ago when the iPhone was first coming out I decided that the iPhone would be my cellphone of choice. I was one of those people that had it before anyone else, and was broke because of it. I am now on my third generation of iPhone and I really have no complaints, well I have one complaint.

My complaint is that there is a gremlin that lives in my smart phone. He is quite annoying and his name is AUTOCORRECT. I will share with you some of my favorite suggestions that he has given me.

if i were a tree

I love trees. I love that I depend on them. (That whole breathing thing, I like doing that.) I love the shade they provide. I love how they look when the wind blows. I love the variety of trees in this world.

I used to think that my favorite tree was a weeping willow. I WAS WRONG. My favorite tree is now a Rainbow Eucalyptus tree. I just stumbled on an awesome picture of one and my mind was blown.

Apparently, the tree loses its bark. Depending on how long the skin is exposed, determines what color remains. I need to go and visit my tree brethren. STAT!

i see you clash

I see you CLASH by definelulu

This is my ode to my bizarre fashion sense. I have a thing for clashing and wearing loud colors... and otherwise scaring the neighbors.

my dog

I am more of a cat person. Yet, I have two small dogs. Both are rescue animals and have a bunch of emotional problems we work through. The smaller of the two, Oscar, has the most strange habits of any animal I have even seen.

For instance, he is emotionally damaged by the song Happy Birthday. If you sing this song at a certain point he will scream and cry. I thought perhaps it was a tone in the song that sets him off. Well, its not. Why do I know this? I have taken to singing random songs to him constantly and never get the same response.

That being said, he has formed a new strange habit. He has always enjoyed being under blankets. In fact, both my dogs enjoy being under blankets. I call them my "blanket worms". Creepy huh? Anyways, he now adjusts a blanket first. Then drags the pillow over and uses it as a blanket.

Here he is getting under the pillow.

And here he has his pillow blanket and blanket pillow.

Hey Oscar!@! You are doing it wrong!!!

new year's resolution

So, for this 2013 I decided to make a bunch of New Year's resolutions. In reality, it was under one parent resolution that: I will be "the best me I could be". I have started many new projects. I am eating healthy. I am trying new things and doing everything I can to "get out of my comfort zone". Recently, I found a quote that has been my motto almost everyday.

(Source Unknown)

I think this sums how I have been feeling, nicely. Today, I have decided that I will post a monthly inspirational quote and make a section for it here on my blog.

I will backlog a couple I have stored away to start with as well. YAY, more blog content. I realize now that a part of this New Year's resolution, is that I must act on all the great ideas I have. This way I will make the world a happier more colorful place!

tarot

So I have been using Tarot cards for a long time. I have one deck that I use pretty frequently. In the past, I have found myself confused over certain card meanings. I just couldn't figure out why one card represented something like wealth and opportunity was any different than another card.

I decided it would be a good idea to try to RE-LEARN Tarot all over again. I thought buying a new deck and perhaps a couple of "how-to books", would be a good start.

After much research, I decided to order the Easy Tarot Kit by: Josephine Ellershaw. This kit includes a wonderfully written book by Josephine outlining the Tarot craft. The kit also includes the Gilded Tarot Deck by: Ciro Marchetti.

After using this kit, I can honestly say that I have learned A LOT from the kit. The cards make so much more sense to me now and I think I found "the" tarot cards I want to use.

Since I had such a great experience with the kit, I also ordered the bigger Easy Tarot Reading Handbook by: Josephine Ellershaw. I haven't gone all the way through this book, but it is more of a step by step review of readings that she has done. I really enjoy seeing her process and impressions on how to convert the cards into a clear message.

This is just more proof that you can never master Tarot reading and it is always a journey.

errands

This weekend was full of errands. There was WAY too much to do. However, I am excited to report that I got a lot done!

One of the major things that I did was apply for my passport.

I look super cute in my picture!

I also went to the thrift store with Andy. (He destroys his jeans at a disturbing rate.) So now, we get second hand jeans to keep up with his consumption. I was looking around while he tried on various pairs and found a fun SOYJOY t-shirt.

I picked it because I am full of joy and I am pescatarian (or a vegetarian that eats fish and dairy). That being said I eat A LOT of soy products. When I got home, I promptly found out that SOYJOY is a granola-snack-nutrition-bar that is sold mainly in; North America, Europe, and Asia. I still am going to wear the shirt regardless of being a walking billboard. I like how kitschy it is.

Anyhoo, in my search I found this cute SOYJOY commercial. I found it sooooo visually appealing that I just had to post it. =)
